Valparaíso, 1 of the Top 10 cities to visit in 2010

Tuesday, December 8, 2009

"A charming town, where Chilean socialist Pablo Neruda hid in the late 1940s when Communism was outlawed. 2010 will mark the 40th anniversary of Chile’s first democratically-elected socialist head of state, Salvador Allende.

Valparaiso offers a fairly unique South American experience, with painted houses sitting on hills leading down to a huge bay, with old elevators taking you up and down the city's steep slopes."

The Top 10 cities to visit in 2010".

The Brighton has a popular cafe on the first floor with two terrace patios that seem to hang over the city; it's mesmerizing and encourages you to linger long after you've finished breakfast.

No matter where you stand, he's always pointing the crossbow straight at you.

Ex-prison of Valparaíso

Monday, November 23, 2009

I arrived to Valparaíso in the same years that the prison permanently opened its cells and closed its doors (1999). The Ex-prison is located in the Cerro Cárcel of Valparaíso (Valpo), near to the olds cemeteries of the city.

Today, only to reopen as a public park and art museum, the ex-prision is in very bad condition, you can only visit the exterior, the cells and building are closed. I'm sure that this picture is the last that I can take inside of the principal building.

The loneliness is the only friend of the rusty metal and of the walls that contain the poetry of the prisioners, the only way to be free in this place...

Lake San Isabel, open to fishing year-round

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

I'm very happy to have visited Colorado in 2 diferent seasons, my first time in Colorado was in winter with a "White Christmas" and the second was in summer. (I wan to visit colorado in fall, because the color of the leaves of the trees provides a beautiful landscape)

The Lake San isabel is a good place to visit and it's very close to Tyffanie's parents' house (good for me). The following picture, obviously in HDR, was taking during one of our familiar trips.

In summer you can see a lot of people fishing in the lake, i don't like to fish (I find it boring)... but the lake is open to fishing year-round and ICE fishing is allowed!!! I find it strange and dangerous. You can see what I saw in this video:

Yes! One person making a hole in the ice in the middle of the lake!!! But the strangest thing is that this person is a friend of my father-in-law. Kevin (mi suegro) always has friends in the strangest places...

Seattle from the Ferry

Monday, November 16, 2009

Before to my trip to seattle, a lot of people said "Seattle is the most rainy city on the world!!", that is the reason that Seattle is also referred to informally as "Rain City". I stayed 6 days and only 3 days with rain!!! It is weird considering Seattle as city of the rain, but googleando I could see that this city is not the most rainy, but almost always is cloudy and the rain of Seattle is more like a drizzle...

This picture was taken from the Ferry, when I was traveling to visit Dana's mother, (Dana is the girlfriend of my nephew Alexis).

If you are visiting Seattle you can not miss the first Starbucks, Pike Place Market, the famous "Space Needle" and of course take the ferry to Bainbridge Island and go back in the last Ferry like at 11:35 PM. It is so beautiful to see Seattle's lights reflecting in the water while the wind brushes your face in the front of the ferry.

P.S.:The picture was taken with my old camera Canon Powershot S5.
